Letter: Cook Would Bring Passion, Commitment As School Committee Member

Wakefield resident Laurie Hunt writes about why she's voting for Janine Cook for School Committee.

Dear editor,

Why do I feel Janine Cook would be a great addition to Wakefield School Committee? I would describe Janine as informed, loyal, committed, passionate, never afraid to speak her mind and exactly the type of person you would want in your corner.

I know Janine fully understands the commitment involved serving on the Wakefield School Committee and I also know she would do an outstanding job.  Janine has proven herself to be hard working and have excellent follow-through with the incredible amount of experience she has working as a volunteer in our schools and community.  This work has also left her with a vast knowledge of the issues our schools are facing. Janine has been giving to our community for many years and we would be fortunate to have her on the Wakefield School Committee.

I first met Janine Cook several years ago over the phone. A mutual friend sang Janine’s praises and suggested I reach out to her for help with something so I did. I had never even met this woman yet she was ready to jump right in and do what she could. Why? This is what she has been doing in our community for years, giving her time to help others and advocating for children in our community.  She is an amazing source of support.

I do not know where Janine gets her energy. She has helped a great many families who have needed assistance advocating for their children through her work on the Special Education Parent Advisory Council, she has worked to help PTO’s, she works tirelessly for the Best Buddies program, organizes and runs dances for our middle school students, is a Wakefield Adult Mentor and so much more.

I have also had the pleasure of working with Janine’s daughter, Erin, when she comes to the Greenwood School with the Best Buddies program to read to students. Erin is another example of the great work Janine does.

Please join me on Tuesday and cast one of your two votes for Janine Cook for Wakefield School Committee.

Sincerely,

Laurie Hunt
Wakefield resident

“Dale Landers” – This is the first time in many years I have seen this much mudslinging and slander in a local election. I hope that the Patch removes your comments unless it can be proven who you are and you are willing to come forth as yourself to say you saw this happen with your own eyes because, quite frankly, I don’t believe it.

I stand by my endorsement of Janine and everything I said about her.

Hello all - while all opinions are welcome here on Wakefield Patch, inaccurate attacking isn't. I have attempted to follow up with Dale Larson, and his/her comment is up for review for removal.

Is Dale Larson even a real person or a screen name for someone unwilling to sign their own name..........

I agree with Laurie, Margie, and Heidi. It seems that Mr. Larson may have never had an opportunity to get wrapped up in the political red tape the the Wakefield School system can sometimes provide to an individual or group of individuals. From my personal experience within the Wakefield School system, Janine Cook has never been afraid of doing the right thing. She is always willing to step in to help set the record straight even if it may put her in a compromising position .This takes courage. She stands up for what she believes in and cuts through the politics. She has been involved in many aspects of education here in Wakefield. This takes hard work and dedication. She has a deep concern for the children of this town with leadership shown in such areas as the Best Buddies program. This takes compassion. For these and many more reasons I ask that you join me in voting for Janine Cook for School Committee this Tuesday.

Believe it or not, there are personal agenda's. I see many friends on here of mrs cook, but let's face it, the proof will be in the pudding coming the new school year. Talks already about curriculum changes that affects our children for the worst, talk about failing our children. She's not the right person for the job, the school committee NEEDs people without agenda's like Mrs cook
