PHOTO: Kayla Harrison Comes To Town

Olympic judo gold medalist stopped by Jimmy Pedro's Judo Center in Wakefield on Saturday.

Kayla Harrison, who won an Olympic gold medal in judo earlier this summer, was in Wakefield over the weekend, stopping by Jimmy Pedro's Judo Center for an open house. The event included photos with Harrison, judo lessons and demonstrations, and a question and answer session with the Olympic medalist, who trained at Pedro's in Wakefield.

Last month, Wakefield Patch ran this article with Jimmy Pedro talking a bit more about judo, his own accomplishments in the sport, and the boost that some sports such as judo are getting from the popularity of mixed martial arts.

A wonderful event, indeed! My son, husband and a friend attended this event as my son is an orange belt at Pedros's and had been taught by Sensei Kayla a while back. My husband could not say enough great things about Kayla and the entire staff at the dojo. She is an inspiring role model for all, young and old, boy or girl. My son has thrived at Pedro's Judo Center where the values that are being taught at home are reinforced and he is practicing life-long skills of self-defense and strength of mind and body. Congrats to Kayla, Travis and Jimmy Pedro!
