Interim Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent Sign Contracts to Start in Wakefield on Aug. 1st
Dr. Garry Murphy and Dr. Sandra Holloran have each signed their contracts for a combined total salary of up to $126,700 for the 2012-2013 school year.
Wakefield's interim superintendent and interim assistant superintendent will officially begin their posts for the Wakefield Public School Department on August 1st, according to their contracts with the Wakefield School Committee.
The interim superintendent for the 2012/2013 school year will be Dr. Garry Murphy, of Lowell, MA, who has 13 years of experience as a school superintendent, one year of experience as an interim superintendent, and also has experience as a school business administrator, a curriculum developer and as a teacher.
The School Committee has decided that Dr. Murphy will work part-time and will also bring in an interim assistant superintendent to also work part-time, thereby ensuring full coverage in Wakefield.
The new interim assistant superintendent will be Dr. Sandra Holloran, a retired superintendent who most recently worked with the Triton Regional School District.
The full contract allows for employment from August 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013, and can be extended in 30 day increments until June 30, or until a new superintendent is found for the Wakefield School District.
Dr. Murphy's August to February contract calls for 118 work days at a rate of $520 a day for a sum of $39,520, with the option to be extended until June 30th for a total of $70,200 for the full school year.
Dr. Holloran's contract requires 64 work days at a rate of $500 a day, for the sum of $32,000 with the possibility to be extended until June 30 for a total of $56,500.
The school district could thus spend up to a total of $126,700 on the two interim superintendents' salaries from August 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.
The new superintendent search will begin in September for a candidate to start in town in Febuary 2013.
