Five Things to Know Today, Sept. 20

Tickets on sale for an evening in Monte Carlo to benefit Center for Performing Arts, and more things to know today.

 

1. Clouds and rain - Today will be cloudy with a high near 69 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There's a 50 percent chance of rain for most of the day.

2. Today in Wakefield sports, boys golf plays Winchester at 3:15 p.m. at home, boys and girls varsity cross country takes on Reading at 3:45 p.m. @ Reading, boys soccer plays Melrose at 3:45 p.m. @ Melrose, and girls soccer plays Melrose at 6 p.m. at home.

3. Fundraiser for CPA: The Wakefield Center for Performing Arts, Inc.  is holding a fundraiser designed to both show you a good time and raise money to help pay off the Center for Performing Arts at Wakefield High School. An Evening in Monte Carlo,is a casino-esque night of fun, complete with casino games, comedy by Paul D'Angelo, jazz music, food, a (cash) bar, desserts and a silent auction. We've also gotten word that there's a raffle with some of the top items being a signed Bruins hockey stick, and a pair of Jet Blue tickets to anywhere in the continental US. Tickets are $55/person. 4. Brave the Bully - Strategies for kids to deal with bullies have change a lot over the years. Defensive Edge is offering a free class for kids and their families tonight to help empower children in grades 3 and up to identify - and deal with - bullies, and bullying prevention techniques. The class starts at 5 p.m. at Defensive Edge.

5. Did you know... that the Stone Zoo is offering a promotion in September where seniors, ages 62+, will receive the kids price for admission into the zoo? Be sure to mention “Seniors in September Promotion” at the admission booth to receive this discounted price of $9.
