Five Things to Know Today, Sept. 14

Several town commissions meet tonight, the library hosts a drop-in story time, and more things to know today.

 

1. Sunny - Today will be partly sunny with a high near 83. However, there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 9 a.m., with a 20 percent chance of precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Today in Wakefield sports - Boys varsity golf takes on Swampscott High School at 3:15 p.m. @ Swampscott.

3. Town meetings - Tonight, the Board of Appeals meets at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, the Council on Aging meets at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center, the Recreation Commission meets tonight at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, and the Historical Commission meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. Take your pick!

4. Today at the library - The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library holds its "Mother Goose on the Loose - Walkers and Talkers" story time today at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., depending on age group. The story time will be held regularly from now until October 19th on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children will sing songs, play musical instruments, play games, and more.

5. Today on the site - We start off with Five Things to Know at 6 a.m., then our Event Spotlight at 8 a.m. on an art show for seniors, our featured Announcement Spotlight at 9 a.m., where we highlight information submitted by our users. Then at 10 a.m., we'll run our weekly installment of Frugal Family, where we bring you coupons and other ways to save money in town this week, and at 12 p.m. we'll run our daily police log. In the afternoon, our MomTalk column runs at 1 p.m., then we'll be bringing you news from last night's school committee meeting in the afternoon. So check back often!
