Want to know what's going on in Wakefield today? Here's a quick summary.
1. Weather at-a-glance: Today will be sunny with a high near 33, but a wind chill could make it feel like -1, according to the National Weather Service. I hate to bring it up, but it looks like we'll be getting more snow on Saturday, although right now, it looks like we'll get an inch or less.
2. Wakefield sports: Tonight, Wakefield High girls and boys basketball takes on Winchester, at home. The girls play at 5:30 and the boys play at 7. Also tonight, the Northeast Metro Tech boys varsity basketball team plays the Minutemen at 4:45 p.m., and the Nazareth Academy girls varsity basketball team plays Mt. Alvernia High School at 5:30 p.m. at the Woodville Elementary School.
3. Wear Red - Today is National Wear Red Day to help support women's heart health. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women, regardless of race or ethnicity. It also strikes at younger ages than most people think, and the risk rises in middle age, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
5. Dinner/Dance for Scholarships: St. Florence Church will host the St. Florence Holy Name Society's 6th Annual Monsignor James T. Cotter Scholarship/Bring Back the Good Times Dinner Dance on Saturday from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m.
