Five Things to Know Today, Feb. 1
Where to get free coffee, where to celebrate the Celtic Spring, and more things worth knowing in Wakefield today.
1. Probable rain - According to the National Weather Service, we'll have scattered showers throughout most of the day today before the rain turns to sun. Highs will be in the mid-50s.
2. Today in Wakefield Sports - Boys varsity wrestling competes against Merlrose at 7 p.m. @ Melrose, and boys varsity ice hockey plays Woburn at 7:10 p.m. at home.
3. Astronomy for everyone! - The Beebe Library welcomes astrophysicist Kevin Manning, a former consultant with NASA, tonight at 6:30 p.m., to talk about the size and scale of the universe, the stars, and other celestial wonders using hands-on activities and assorted visuals. The event is open to all ages, but you have to register in advance by calling the Library Reference Desk at 781-246-6334, x2.
4. Imbolc Ritual - Join the Unitarian Universalist Church for a Ritual on the Occasion of Imbolc, the beginning of the spring quarter of the Celtic calendar, a time which is said to bring the gift of insight and inspiration. Bring a taper candle and a holder, objects or pictures to put on a vision board, and a small amount of food (a snack) to share. All are invited. The ceremony gets started at 7 p.m. tonight at the church. See here for more information.
5. Free coffee at... - Panera! During the month of February, Panera Bread is holding a "Warm-Up Wednesday" campaign, featuring free coffee at participating Boston-area bakery-cafes from 7a.m. to 9 a.m. There will also be delivery teams out on the street in the Boston area looking to surprise commuters and those who work outside with a warm treat. Although there isn't a Panera in Wakefield, the one on Route 1 in Saugus is pretty close. Enjoy!
