Five Things to Know Today, Feb. 1
Want to know what's going on in Wakefield today? Here's a quick summary.
1. Prepare for snowmageddon: Just when you thought conditions in Eastern Massachusetts couldn't get any worse, it's going to snow and sleet pretty much nonstop for the next two days, bringing somewhere between 12 and 16 inches to Wakefield. According to the National Weather Service, the snow will start at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and will affect the morning commute before tapering off later in the evening.
2. Besides buying bread and milk, what should you do to prepare yourself? This particular storm is projected to bring in heavy, wet snow, which will further stress already snow-covered roofs, trees and power lines, meaning we may see more power outages than in previous storms. Flashlights, matches, blankets and warm clothing and prescription medications to last you a few days are just some of the things you can do to prepare yourself. 3. Triple Trivia Tuesdays: If it's not canceled due to snow, you can play team trivia in three places tonight: The Dockside, Harrington's, in Wakefield and Chili's in Reading.
4. Wakefield sports: If games are not cancelled, Wakefield High girls' and boys' basketball are scheduled to take on Woburn tonight at Woburn at 5:30 and 7 p.m. respectively. Northeast Metro Tech boys' basketball is also scheduled to play today - they will take on North Shore at 4:45 at home.
5. Catholic Education: If you're considering sending your child to Catholic school, St. Joseph's School is holding an open house today from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.
