Big Jon's Now Open For Business On Main Street

One of Wakefield's newest businesses is Big Jon's Pizzeria at 927 Main Street.

About a week ago, one of Wakefield's newest businesses went into operation - Big Jon's Pizzeria is at 927 Main Street, in the building formerly occupied by Nick and Ally's Pizzeria.

Wakefield's newest business owner is Jon D'Amelio of East Boston, who spent about three years working at Slice in Wakefield. He reported that he also spent about six years cooking at various restaurants in the North End.

Big Jon's is a family business through and through - Jon's brother Frank is a partner in the restaurant, their mother, Rosa, makes meatballs and more for the business, and their father does shopping for it. "Everything is from scratch, everything we do is home made," D'Amelio told Wakefield Patch.

When asked what the restaurant's specialties are, D'Amelio cited the meatball subs, with the previously mentioned homemade meatballs, plus the steak and cheese, and of course, the pizza.

After just several days in business and with a relatively low-profile opening, D'Amelio said that things were going well so far for Big Jon's. "For no advertisement, I'm happy," he said, encouraging local residents to "come in, introduce yourself, have a good laugh. We're all family and friends."

I heard about the opening just last week, but didn't know where Big Jon's was located. Now that I do I'll be by soon to start out trying everything on the menu.
