5 Things: Boys B-Ball in Finals on Saturday

Five things worth knowing today, March 9, 2012, in Wakefield, MA.

 

1. Don't forget your jacket  - According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 45 degrees.

2. Today in Wakefield Sports - The Wakefield boys varsity basketball team won 47 to 45 against North Andover last night, putting them in the finals versus Brighton on Saturday for the DII North crown! Go Warriors!

3. Readers' Choice ends: The Best of Patch Readers' Choice contest for Wakefield's favorite dentist ends today at 9 a.m. Currently in the lead is Arthur I. Schwartz, D.M.D. We will be announcing the winner at noon today on the website. Vote for your favorite!

4. Happening tonight: There are two great events happening in town tonight. The First Congregational Church in Stoneham will be holding a ping pong tournament from 6-9 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Stoneham (1 Church Street, Stoneham). The event is a fundraiser to benefit home heating and food pantry programs.. Later on, at 8 p.m., is the presentation of 'Once Upon a Mattress' by the Wakefield Repertory Theatre at 8 p.m. at the Greenwood Union Church. If you can't make it tonight, the show will also be playing on Saturday at 3 p.m. and again at 8 p.m.

5. What's up for this weekend -  On Saturday, check out a seminar or Sailboat Racing at 10 a.m. at Lake Quannapowitt, the Dollars for Scholars Phonathon at noon at the Americal Civic Center, Meet Howie Carr at the Beebe Library at 2 p.m., see Jay Psaros in Concert, with Natalie Joly at 7:30 p.m. at WHS, or Brother Sun Trio in concert at the Linden Tree Coffeehouse.
