Six 5th Graders Win W.M.G.L.D. Essay Contest
The Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department (WMGLD) recently recognized six Wakefield Fifth-grade students for the essays they submitted as part of the Fourth Annual WMGLD Energy Conservation Essay Contest.
Galvin Middle School students Brian Smith, Caroline Herzog, Jaime Greatorex, Samantha Robinson, Aidan Cusack, and St. Joseph’s School student Bridget Maynard were honored at an awards celebration at Wakefield Community Access Television studios in Wakefield.
The six winning essays were selected from among more than 270 essays submitted by fifth graders at the Galvin Middle School and St. Joseph’s School following a visit to their schools by WMGLD General Manager Pete Dion as part of the department’s Public Power Week and Energy Awareness Month activities.
A total of 34 students from Galvin Middle School and four from the St. Joseph’s School, were selected as semi-finalists by a panel of judges which included teachers, local officials and WMGLD representatives. All 270 students who submitted an essay received a WMGLD backpack, and each semi-finalist received an LED nightlight.
Each winner read his or her essay during the ceremony that was recorded at the WCAT studios for airing at a later date.
Congratulations.
