Good news today from the volunteer team that's searching for Snappy, the missing Weimaraner: a sighting call came in this past Saturday (February 2nd) and it's solid!!
The location is in the Snap hot zone in Woburn, and a neighbor was able to snap a pic of the dog's backside -- definitely a Weim that resembles Snap. The collar identification is on target, as well.
Sounds like our girl is out there so let's keep an eagle eye out for her! Thanks to the diligent neighbor who called, and to all who are keeping Snap in their prayers, thoughts, and line of sight.
"We want to thank everyone who is keeping Snap in their thoughts, prayers, and line of sight. Please call us if you see her!"
A team of dedicated volunteers is working with the owners to bring Snap home. Should you see her, please call the Snap hotline number: 617-256-8772.

They keep it a secret .... fearing that someone might chase it away....

It is unfortunate that they are not willing to share the general area of the "hot zone". If people knew their home was in the "hot zone", they would be more apt to investigate why a motion sensitive light is going on everynight.

It is imperative that they NOT share the hot zone; rather, to share a widespread, general area. The best way to catch a dog out this long is to have repeated sightings in the same location, so they know where to put a safe trap. Announcing the hot zone leads to people with good intentions going out and searching for the dog, and likely scaring it off to a new, unknown, and possibly dangerous area.

If it was my dog, I would want the most amount of eyes out there looking especially when they are in the area of the "hot zone". You're asking for the publics help yet you are keeping crucial information from us. We are in the middle of the winter which means snow and cold, lots of it. Time is a factor. I agree with EH. Trust the public wont chase Snappy as you have made that clear but you could have triple the eyes out there monitoring if they knew where to look. Best wishes on him coming home, it breaks my heart to think he's out there all alone. You have said if he gets scared he could go to a new area, well if he is still staying in the "hot zone" and you haven't found him yet, maybe its time to try a new tactic. People are too distracted now a days while driving, between the radio, cell phones and gps. Their not thinking lets keep an eye out for a dog who has been lost for a while, but if they knew they were in the hot zone the odds are better they might be looking around.

Poor puppy! I hope you stay nice and safe and warm when the snow starts. Remember, my house is always open!

I think the best thing you can do as an individual is to just keep your eye out for known lost dogs in general areas you frequent and contact the owner right away. I have three dogs in my cell phone right now...one of whom is Snappy, because I sometimes walk my dog in an area of Lexington where Snappy has been sighted in the past. There is an entry in my cell phone contacts for "Lost Weim - Snappy", so that I can call the owner right away if I just happen to see her. There's another lost in Westford, near my home, in my phone and another in an area near my office.
Can't wait to be able to delete these phone contacts because the dogs have been recovered!

Kendra, that's a fantastic idea. I'm going to add Snappy's phone number to my contacts right now.

I would really like to see Woburn Patch remove the comments from the nasty trolls on this post on its FB page. They aren't offering valuable counter arguments for consideration and are only designed to inflict pain and anger on others.

I live in Belmont and until recently the town site posted pix and stories about lost pets. I print those out and post them by our back door, so if I see an unfamiliar cat or dog in the yard I can see if there is a matching photo. Then I can make a call, try to lure the animal with food, etc.
