Greenwood Students Tone Up For Technology

During these tough budget times schools rely more and more on PTO’s to fill in the gaps.  Three years ago the Greenwood School PTO held a fundraiser to purchase shades for the school’s gym/cafeteria.  The event was called “Shape Up For Shades” and raised almost $5,000 – because of the generosity of families the PTO was able to purchase drapes rather than shades.  The next year “Tone Up For Technology” was born and the PTO delivered a check to Wakefield Public Schools for $4,500 for the purchase of technology for the school.

According to Greenwood School Principal Debbie Collura “This technology allows teachers to enhance instruction by utilizing the many resources found on the Internet that connect to their curriculum using demonstrations, movies, and a variety of other real time resources.  As a result of our very successful fundraiser last year we were able to purchase laptops and InFocus projectors for our third and fourth grade classrooms.  This year we will continue this initiative and purchase as many laptops and InFocus projectors as the funds allow for our kindergarten-second grade classrooms.”

The second annual event was recently held in the Greenwood School Gym where the children jumped rope, danced and did the limbo all to raise money for their school while families looked on from a balcony.  The final amount raised, and the top fundraisers will be announced at the end of this week.

“It is important to recognize that this event would not be possible without the support of the staff at the Greenwood School, especially Physical Education Teacher Joie Edson and School Nurse Mary Doherty” said PTO President Laurie Hunt.  “Mrs. Edson and Mrs. Doherty organize this entire event from preparing the marketing materials, ordering prizes and preparing the children for the event.  We are so grateful for their support and how they continue to go above and beyond for our school community!”

Go Greenwood Gators!
